Couple shot during house robbery in Redcliffe

Two people were shot during a robbery at a property situated on an unpaved road near Dawnview Drive in Redcliffe, Verulam.

Reaction Unit South Africa Verulam Operations Center received a call from a member of public reporting the shooting. Upon arrival, a 24-year-old man was found shot twice in his right arm while his 23-year-old girlfriend was shot in the leg.

According to the male victim, he left his room to fetch water when he was accosted by two unknown men. One suspect was armed with a handgun. Without warning the armed suspect shot the victim once on his arm. As he attempted to flee back to his room he was shot again.

The suspects then broke the door leading to his room where they demanded cash from his girlfriend. After she informed them that she had no cash they robbed her of their cellphones before she was shot in the leg. The suspects also enquired about another man who lived on the property but was not at home at the time. The two then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Both victims were treated for their injuries by Paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service before being transported to the hospital.
