Student held for concealment of birth

EASTERN CAPE – An 18-year-old woman was arrested by Mthatha police after an infant was found in a toilet wrapped in a plastic bag at a campus yesterday at about 15:00. It is alleged that the woman had a misunderstanding with the father of the child which caused her to abort the child. She will be appearing in Mthatha Magistrate Court today.

In another incident, two men from Qumbu aged 34 and 40 years respectively, were arrested by Sulenkama Vispol members after they received information about unknown men who were conveying sheep in a bakkie at Sithaleni locality in Sulenkama yesterday at about 17:00. They were arrested at Sangqu in Sulenkama after failing to produce papers for the stock. Five sheep, not branded, were recovered and their Isuzu bakkie was confiscated. The stock was impounded at Qumbu Pound and anyone who might have lost his stock may visit Qumbu Stock Theft Unit.

“The South African Police is committed to protecting the citizens of this country and their property. Let’s work together in fighting stock theft. We encourage people to brand their livestock as it makes things easier for them in identifying and claiming it.” said the District Commissioner, Major General Mhlangenqaba Kanuka.
