Vehicle recovered in fabricated hijacking

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa recovered a white 2014 VW Polo Vivo after the owner reported that he was hijacked and held hostage in Pinetown in Kwazulu Natal yesterday afternoon.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa tracked and located the vehicle in Zwelisha and after penetrating the home, realized that it belongs to the owner. After questioning the occupants they informed Reaction Officers that they were not aware of the hijacking and that the owner of the vehicle was at work. Reaction Officers interviewed the owner who initially claimed to be held up by hijackers outside his workplace. He added that he was loaded into the trunk and kept against his will for several hours before being released.

When Reaction Officers informed him that they had recovered his vehicle at his home, the victim became apologetic and informed Officers that he had fabricated the hijacking case after he crashed his vehicle.

The scene was handed over to the SAPS and Tracker for Investigation.
