Hijacked vehicle recovered in Nyaninga
A Toyota Quantum taxi that was hijacked and the driver who was taken with the vehicle in Lamontville near Mobeni in Durban were located in Nyaninga.
At approximately 20:49 members of Reaction Unit, South Africa was alerted by Tracker that the vehicle was emitting signals on an unpaved road between Ndwedwe and Tongaat. Reaction Officers proceeded to the location and recovered the vehicle with the Tongaat SAPS.
The 39-year-old driver was located nearby. He informed Officers that shortly after dropping off his passengers at his last stop in Lamontville he was accosted by three suspects. Two suspects drew firearms and forced him to lie out of sight in the vehicle while they drove to an isolated area where they began to strip the minibus taxi.
It is believed that the suspects were disturbed when they fled in an unknown awaiting vehicle. The driver then walked towards a farm where he sought assistance from individuals who contacted his employer and informed him of the hijacking. The tracking unit was then activated.
The victim was also robbed of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
