The Commission of inquiry into taxi violence continues on 24 February 2020

The public hearings of the Commission of Inquiry into Taxi Violence in the Gauteng province will continue on Monday, 24 February 2020 at 10:00.

The Commission will hear testimony from the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s Director
of Drivers Learners and Testing Centre (DLTC), Mr Ngqola Sonwabo, on Monday, 24 February 2020 at 10:00.

Mr Sonwabo’s testimony will include, but not be limited:
– The role of municipalities vs the functions of the Gauteng Provincial Regulatory Authority (GPRE);
– Recommendations on how municipalities can access funds to perform duties; and
– The role of the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the interplay between provincial
and municipalities.

The legal team is in the process of identifying and/or consulting with other witnesses who will appear
before the Commission over the next few weeks.
