Girl arrested after stealing batteries from the motors of automated driveway gates in Brindhaven

A 15 year old girl was apprehended after she and an accomplice stole batteries from the motors of automated driveway gates in Brindhaven – Verulam earlier today (Friday).

Reaction Officers were called out to Crescent Place at approximately 12:57 after a homeowner found the girl in possession of her stolen battery. On arrival it was established that two females were seen walking around aimlessly in the area since this morning. When a resident tried opening her driveway gate she found that the battery from her gate motor had been stolen.

The two suspects once again passed her house and when they were approached one of the females fled leaving her accomplice behind. The suspect who was apprehended was found in possession of a packet containing three batteries.

While being interviewed the Buffelsdraai resident initially denied stealing the batteries but later confirmed and pointed out the homes where they had stolen them from. The batteries were going to be sold to a scrap yard.

Reaction Unit South Africa has received several complaints from residents of Brindhaven this week reporting the theft of their driveway gate motor batteries. The two females are believed to be linked to the reported thefts. The second suspect is an Indian female who is generally seen in the vicinity of Chubbies Garage in Verulam.

The suspect that was apprehended was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
