How to effectively work from home during the lockdown period.
The most important thing is to stick to a routine, whether you have children or not. Changing the structure of your routine can sometimes create confusion but if you have kids some routines need to be adjusted to accommodate them as well. Working from home surely has it’s benefits but you will need to practice self-discipline.
The following TIPS will help you with being well organized and productive during this lockdown period:
1. Selfcare
We all want to press the “snooze” button on the alarm and stay in your pajamas the whole day. Following your regular routine will help you stay focused and on track of everything. Wake up, work in a quick exercise before the kids wake up (If you are a morning person, I prefer exercising in the morning as it gives my day a kickstart, to begin with) Get dressed, as staying in your pajamas will make you feel less motivated to work (well, it depends on you)
2. Workspace
Ensure your workspace is well organized and free of clutter. A clean workspace helps reduce unnecessary stress.
3. Take Breaks
Those 10-15-minute breaks are crucial to your mental and physical health. Walk around, breathe, move your muscles, have lunch and most importantly is to stay hydrated.
4. Boundaries with kids
If you have younger kids that enquires more attention, check up on them more often. Have more breaks in between and interact with them. Give them different activities to keep them busy, like building Legos, coloring in, educational activities like reading a book, building puzzles or drawing something they love, watching a movie (avoid letting them watch TV all day) or simply by helping you around the house.
5. Communication
If both parents are working from home try alternating shifts with your partner. If you are a single parent, don’t worry you got this. (I salute you)
6. End of the day
Unwind and relax, forget about work that is tomorrow’s worries. Spend time with your family.
