Illegal liquor scam in Verulam

Several Verulam residents have been scammed out of thousands of Rands by an Indian male who assist them in illegally purchasing liquor.

Reaction Unit South Africa responded to several callouts this week after receiving reports of Theft of Cash. In all cases, shoppers/motorists were approached by a male who lurks around bottle stores in the CBD. The suspects offer the victims a list of liquor on sale then take the order and cash. He then walks to the rear of a bottle store under the pretense of purchasing the liquor and then disappears.

The suspect has been identified as Preolin, an Indian male approx 1.8 m tall, slender inbuilt with an untidy appearance.

No criminals cases have been registered by the complainants as selling/distributing and dispensing liquor is a violation of the Disaster Management Act.
