Security guard shot and killed in a parking lot outside a Supermarket in Tongaat

A Security Officer was shot and killed at Golden Sun Supermarket in Tongaat a short while ago (Thursday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were on patrol on Gopalall Hurbans Road at approximately 13:36 when they were flagged down by the public reporting the shooting. Reaction Officers found the body of a Security Officer from Jikelela Security lying in the parking lot. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was declared deceased on the arrival of Paramedics.

It was established that the Security Officer was on patrol in the busy car park when he was approached by the occupants of a silver VW Polo sedan. One suspect drew a revolver and shot the deceased in the head before they stole his shotgun. The robbers fled the scene in their getaway vehicle which did not have registration plates. They were pursued by onlookers but managed to escape shortly after turning into Hambanathi.

Reaction Officers are currently searching for the suspects.
