Scrap tyres catch alight at a business in Redcliffe, Verulam

Several scrap tyres caught alight at a block manufacturing business in Redcliffe, Verulam a short while ago (Friday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from residents in the area at approximately 17:08 reporting thick, black smoke emanating from the property. Reaction Officers were dispatched and on arrival found the Ethekwini Fire & Emergency Services on scene. Firemen were in the process of battling the blaze which was contained to the rear of the property where several scrap tyres were stored.

Circumstances as to how the fire had started have not been established at this stage.
