FCA Enables Kyalami 9 Hour Support

Centurion, 11 December 2020 – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles South Africa (FCASA) is proud to support the iconic Kyalami 9 Hour this weekend when its vehicles are used for medical, fire and rescue and on-track support throughout the historic event.

The Fiat Fullback – the most-driven 2019 bakkie in South Africa according to AutoTrader – will take the opportunity to prove its reliability, robustness, and practicality when doing track-side duty to keep the race going. In addition, Jeep will provide invaluable support to other critical behind-the-scenes functions that allow the show to go on. Wrangler, Renegade and Compass vehicles will be used by officials throughout the international motorsport weekend.

The Kyalami 9 Hour holds legendary status in South African motorsport, the first event being held at the then-new Kyalami circuit in 1961. This year once again marks the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli, the second time since the race returned to the Midrand circuit in 2019.

FCA brands are no stranger to motorsport nor to the Kyalami 9 Hour, although they have traditionally been competing on the circuit rather than supporting alongside. Alfa Romeo and Fiat have illustrious histories in the event; but this year will be supporting the backbone that actually allows the race to happen.

“We are proud to be involved in the Kyalami 9 Hour, allowing the critical support functions to happen that make the event a reality,” says Ismaeel Hassen, CEO of FCA South Africa. “While the competitors will be the stars this weekend, we can’t help draw the parallels to our own customers who enjoy the support of our products to make their achievements reality.”

The Kyalami 9 Hour will be televised on DStv SuperSport on Saturday 12 December. The event is not open to spectators due to the COVID-19 protocols that need to be adhered to.
