Entsika Consulting founder appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Unisa College of Human Sciences

Zakhele Mkhize, the founder and director of Entsika Consulting, has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Unisa College of Human Sciences (CHS) and other faculties/schools. The appointment is effective from 01 January 2021.

Confirming the appointment, Professor Kgomotso Masemola, the Executive Dean of the CHS said the Senate Executive Committee appointed Mkhize in recognition of his role as a leader in entrepreneurship, accounting, and auditing sector.

“I am humbled and honoured by this appointment” said Mkhize of the appointment. “I see it as an opportunity to make my small contribution to entrepreneurship education and empowerment in South Africa. I look forward to working with the College.”

The post is not a full-time teaching post, but an honorary recognition, based on the ability to deliver turnkey solutions. In his new role, Mkhize will deliver guest lectures on innovation and entrepreneurship on the CHS platforms. He will also contribute to research on Unisia’s Digital Innovation Hub. Professor Masemola says the scholarly contribution will be to help the college redesign its modules in political economy, political science, and economics.

Mkhize is a qualified Chartered Accountant CA(SA) and holds a Master’s in Business Science (MBA) from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He was also appointed as part time lecturer after completing his MBA by GIBS and Regenesys Business School.

Whilst studying for this his MBA, he founded Entsika, a consulting firm that offers Internal Auditing, Engineering and Construction, Plant and Asset Management as well as Training and Skills Development. Before setting up Entsika, he completed his articles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and became an assistant manager, after returning to South Africa from being seconded to California (USA), then worked at BMW South Africa and Cadbury Plc, also in South Africa.

In its twelve years of existence, Entsika has grown to be one of the successful and well-run firm in the country, creating number of jobs, has office in most provinces and has serviced clients in the public and private sector and state-owned entities. These range from the national departments of Public Works, Rural Development and Land Reform, the Gauteng and Limpopo Provincial Government, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, and its water utility ERWAT, SOEs Rand Water, Transnet and Eskom and the Land Bank as well as asset manager Salib and USAid.

Giving and community building is in his DNA, Mkhize does extensive philanthropic work through his chairmanship of the Entsika Foundation, which currently runs a bursary scheme with the Department of Basic Education, the scheme is aiming at supporting 100 students from disadvantaged background through universities, currently there are about 40 students being supported in South Africa and abroad, the National Teachers Awards, building schools and centers of learning, caring for elderly and minor headed families among a range of initiatives.

Mkhize is a respected Triathlete who chairs the Entsika Athletic Club, having completed several cycling, marathons and ultra-marathons including five comrades and full Ironman. He is also a mountaineer who has conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, the Alps, and Mount Vinson, among others.
