Suspect to appear in court for Stock Theft

A 37-year-old man is expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 23 March 2021, in connection with a case of stock theft. The suspect’s court appearance emanates from his apprehension by Kuruman Stock Theft Unit and Vryburg Stock Theft Unit at Kuruman, in the Northern Cape on Saturday, 20 March 2021, after he was allegedly linked to a stock theft case.

According to allegations, the farm manager left the farm after work Friday, 12 March 2021, everything was in order. It is alleged that when he returned Monday morning, he noticed that there was something wrong with the kraal’s gate.  Further allegations state that when the manager went inside the kraal he saw that 98 cattle worth the value of R750 000.00 were missing. He reported the matter to Vryburg Police Station and police immediately attended to the matter and contacted their counterparts in Kuruman.  The two provinces investigation led to the arrest of the suspect and he directed them to three farmers, to whom he sold the livestock too and 82 cattle were recovered.

According to allegations, the suspect used a bakkie with a trailer to transport the livestock from Vryburg to Kuruman. The animals were recovered and handed back to the rightful owner.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court for his first court appearance.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the two Provinces Stock Theft Units for working tirelessly in ensuring the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen livestock. He reminded farmers to brand mark their livestock as this assist the police to identify the rightful owners.
