Illegal gambling machines recovered during operations

Lady Grey SAPS endeavours to keep communities safe and secure yielded welcome successes during ‘Operation Vhuthu Hawe’ on 8 June 2021 from 20:00 until 02:00.

Several activities including enforcing compliance to the DMA (Disaster Management Act) as well as high visibility with blue light patrols were conducted.

Positive information was also followed up at the Mikhukhwini squatter camp resulting in the arrest of five male suspects between the ages of 17 and 25. They were traced and arrested for the possession of the suspected stolen property.

Electric and copper cables, cutting tools including a knife, scissors and screwdriver were recovered. On further investigation, it was determined that suspects targeted different areas in Lady Grey.

The suspects are expected to appear on 10 June 2021 in the Lady Grey magistrate court.

During the operation, a sleeping mattress and bed that were stolen were also recovered and handed over to the owner.

Positive information was followed up and one house, after a search five (5) illegal gambling machines were also confiscated.

The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the stations on the different crime prevention endeavours and all the good successes.

He also thanked the community for the positive information and support to the SAPS. “The community will see our presence and the criminals will feel it,” he committed that more similar operations will continue in his district.
