Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) arrested a 40-year-old man after he was allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen cattle at Brooklyn village in the Sekhukhune District on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 at about 17:30.

The members were busy with their normal patrol duties along the R579 public road at Ga-Moloi village under Nebo policing area when they spotted a suspicious Toyota Hilux with no registration number plates driving at a high speed.

Members immediately pursued the vehicle and attempted to stop it however the driver refused to stop and a high-speed chase ensued from Glen-Cowie village to Brooklyn where police managed to intercept the vehicle.

As the vehicle came to a halt, two suspects alighted from the motor vehicle in an attempt to flee on foot however, one of the suspects was subsequently apprehended. Police opened the back cover of the bakkie and found three cattle and one calf.

The suspect was interrogated about the origin of the cattle upon which he failed to give satisfactory reasons and was immediately apprehended for being in possession of suspected stolen cattle. The motor vehicle used for the commission of the crime was also seized at the scene.

A further probe by police revealed that the cattle were stolen and transported to Dennilton policing area. They proceeded to the said place and later found three cattle reportedly stolen from Nokaneng village.

Police are calling on livestock owners who might have recently lost their cattle to come to the police station for purposes of positive identification.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has lauded the work performed by the members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) in arresting the suspect and recovering the stolen livestock.
