SAPS detain suspects for the possession of presumed stolen cellular phones
A 26-year-old male was arrested for the possession of presumed stolen property and an undisclosed amount of cash which was found in his possession on 14 September 2023 at about 20:00.
Klawer police were busy executing vehicle check point duties at the N7 Weigh Bridge when they pulled over a white Toyota Quantum for random inspection. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found a bag belonging to one of the passengers with different cellphones wrapped with papers hidden under the clothes. The owner of the bag couldn’t account for the possession thereof. The members proceeded with the search and found an undisclosed amount of cash hidden beneath the clothes in the other part of the bag. The suspect was immediately arrested on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property. The money was also seized and handed as evidence.
The suspect is due to appear in the Klawer Magistrates’ court once charged.
On Wednesday 13 September 2023 a 44-year-old man was arrested for possession of stolen property when Sea Point police followed up on information about a stolen cellphone at about 13:00.
It is alleged that the father of the victim traced the phone which was stolen near Jacke’s Gerwil Road a few days ago. The father traced it to a specific vehicle in Green Point and alerted police who found the IPhone in the same vehicle which the suspect was travelling in. The members also recovered other cellphones and memory sticks including a pair of binoculars, all believed to be stolen property.
Sea Point SAPS is investigating a case of stolen property of which the suspect will appear in Cape Town Magistrate Court on 15 September 2023.
Victims of crime are advised to at all times report stolen cellphones to the South African Police Service as the reporting of such cases will assist SAPS when arresting persons with numerous items such as cellphones and televisions in order to track the legal owners of the items.
Sea Point SAPS is still investigating a case of stolen property and the suspect will appear in Cape Town Magistrate Court today, 15 September 2023.
