Police uncover stolen goods valued at R8m at a storage facility in Hercules, Tshwane District

Gauteng Serious and Violent Crimes (SVC) unit operationalised information received and swooped down on a storage facility in Hercules, Tshwane District, where they seized stolen goods worth eight million rands. The team is tracing the suspect that has leased the storage facility which is believed to be the cooling place for goods robbed during truck hijackings and warehouse robberies.

The goods which include generators, computer screens, solar panels, fans and globes were seized. Some of the items have been positively identified by owners as per Johannesburg Central and Sebenza warehouse robberies that occurred in March and May 2023 respectively, Heidleburg truck hijacking case in April 2023 and Sandton business burglary incident that happened in November 2022.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the team, “This discovery has surely dealt a massive blow to a syndicate that has been terrorising Gauteng with truck hijackings and business robberies. I am pleased with the swift action by the team and I have instructed them to work day and night to trace the suspect. That suspect is our key to cracking the backbone of this syndicate,” said Lt Gen Mawela.

The companies which have already identified their goods have made arrangements to get back the stock that they had lost.
