Two suspects arrested for hijacking and possession of a hijacked vehicle in Jeppestown

On Saturday, 04 November 2023, whilst on patrol around the Kensington area, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit received a hijacking complaint of a green Toyota Corolla by three unknown males that had just taken place in the Johannesburg Inner City.

The officers responded scanning the possible escape routes out of the area, and after minutes of surveillance, the officers spotted the vehicle with three male occupants.

The officers tried to stop the hijacked vehicle and it immediately sped off in an attempt to evade the police. A chase ensued with the officers in hot pursuit until the driver of the hijacked vehicle attempted to make a turn at high speed, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a Mercedes Benz that was parked on the side of the road.
The driver of the hijacked vehicle jumped out and fled the scene. The officers managed to apprehend two males as they attempted to exit the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle positively identified the two males as the individuals who had hijacked him.
The duo was arrested and detained at Jeppe Police Station where they were charged for hijacking and possession of a hijacked vehicle. They are due to appear in court during the week.
