Chery South Africa awards R250,000 scholarship and 12-month internship to promising young scholar

Chery South Africa is pleased to announce Paul Melinda as the first recipient of the Chery Scholarship Challenge. Launched earlier this year, the initiative aims to celebrate South Africa’s youth by empowering brilliant young individuals.

Candidates were challenged to develop a captivating advertising campaign for the Tiggo 4 Pro. Over 880 registrations and more than 50 entries were received. Four of the ten shortlisted candidates were invited to present their ideas to Chery’s executive team.

“Paul’s campaign immediately stood out from the rest. It was a testament to his storytelling ability and skill in visual arts,” said Verene Petersen, National Marketing Manager for Chery South Africa.

Melinda, a student working towards a Bachelor of Information Technology in Business Systems at IIE Rosebank College, will receive a tertiary scholarship worth R250,000 and a 12-month internship at Chery upon completing his studies.

“I’m honoured to have won. The access and support from a global business like Chery will give my career and start in life a big boost,” said Melinda.

The Chery Scholarship Challenge, announced on Youth Day, is in its inaugural year and will run annually hereafter. “This scholarship demonstrates Chery’s commitment to the South African community. Supporting and giving opportunities to the youth is close to our hearts,” concludes Petersen.
