Following the November 2024 reveal of the Tiggo Cross, Chery South Africa is expanding the lineup with a hybrid variant that offers not only strong performance but superb fuel efficiency and driving range. Available in the same grades as the standard Tiggo Cross (Comfort and Elite), the Tiggo Cross HEV provides buyers with more choice than before, and brings hybrid motoring to more people thanks to its attainable price tag.

Powering the Tiggo Cross HEV is a 1.5-litre engine which develops 71 kW and 118 N.m of torque. The addition of an electric motor and 1.83 kWh battery pack results in combined power outputs of 150 kW and 310 N.m of torque, sent to the front wheels via the marque’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which transmits power to the road smoothly and efficiently.

The Tiggo Cross HEV returns just 5.4L/100 km, making it exceptionally efficient. Furthermore, it boasts a range of 1,000 km, pushing the boundaries of what HEV models can achieve-delivering true long-distance capability without frequent refuelling stops. An intelligent start-stop system conserves fuel efficiency in everyday driving.

The comprehensive range significantly reduces the need for fuel station visits for daily commuters, saving them valuable time. For cross-city business trips or long-distance journeys, drivers enjoy complete peace of mind without range limitations or the need to meticulously plan charging routes, as is the case with battery-electric vehicles. The Tiggo Cross HEV delivers the best of both worlds, eliminating range anxiety but delivering outstanding fuel efficiency.

Daily traffic and rush-hour congestion are silent fuel wasters. The Tiggo Cross HEV’s intelligent powertrain seamlessly switches between four operating modes-Pure Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery-optimising efficiency for every driving scenario. During urban low-speed cruising, the system prioritises pure electric mode to eliminate fuel consumption during vehicle acceleration from standstill.

While the Comfort HEV and Elite HEV ride on model-specific 17-inch alloy wheels, their specifications closely align with those of the standard Comfort and Elite variants. The Tiggo Cross HEV is equipped with front ventilated discs and rear disc brakes, delivering confident stopping power. A front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension setup ensures a balanced ride and composed handling, whether on smooth tarmac or rougher gravel roads.

The stylish Tiggo Cross HEV receives automatic LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, along with a sporty tailgate spoiler, chrome-plated dual exhaust finishers, and body-coloured exterior finishes. The Elite variant sports red-painted brake callipers, along with an electrically operated sunroof.

Step inside, and the Tiggo Cross HEV continues to impress with its strong standard specification levels. The soft-touch dashboard is complemented by the black leather upholstery, which, on the Elite trim, extends to the multi-function steering wheel. Ambient lighting is standard across both trims, but the Elite adds luxuries such as a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with a power-operated lumbar support. Both models boast automatic wipers and two-zone automatic climate control. Heated front seats are available on the Elite HEV.

On the convenience front, the Tiggo Cross HEV comes standard with keyless entry, second-row air vents, and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench.

The interior of the Tiggo Cross HEV is dominated by dual 10.25-inch screens, a digital driver’s display, and an infotainment touchscreen. The latter provides access to the comprehensive features available in the Tiggo Cross, including Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a four-speaker sound system. The Elite receives a six-speaker sound system, but both trims gain a wireless mobile phone charger.

The vehicle is equipped with the latest safety features, including Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Descent Control, Brake Assist, and dual front, front side, and side curtain airbags. The Elite variant adds a front inter-seat airbag to the safety suite. While the Comfort HEV receives a rear-view camera (with dynamic guidelines), the Elite comes equipped with the following driver assistance features:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Automatic Brake System (AEB)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
  • Door Opening Warning (DOW)
  • Front Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Intelligent High Beam Control (IHC)
  • Lane Change Assistance (LCA)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Traffic congestion assistance (TJA)
  • 360 HD Panoramic camera system

“With the Tiggo Cross CSH, we’re not just offering a hybrid-we’re delivering a solution for drivers who want performance, efficiency, and long-range capability in one package,” commented Tony Liu, CEO of Chery South Africa. “This vehicle was engineered for South African roads, from daily commutes in city traffic to weekend escapes-without the stress of finding a charge point.”

Pricing for the Tiggo Cross HEV starts at R439,900 for the Comfort and R469,900 for the Elite variant.

The Tiggo Cross HEV is backed by a comprehensive 5-year/150,000 km warranty, a 10-year/unlimited mileage (for 1st owner) battery warranty, and a 5-year/60,000 km service plan, ensuring long-term confidence and value.
