Catering Equipment Destroyed In Outbuilding Fire: Ottawa – KZN

A fire destroyed catering equipment stored in an outbuilding on Ramnanan Road in Ottawa this morning (Monday, 27/04/2026).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out at approximately 08:23 after receiving reports of a structural fire on the property.

On arrival, Reaction Officers found the first floor of a double-storey outbuilding engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke & fire venting through the roof & windows. The ground floor is occupied by a Domestic Employee while the upper level was being used to store catering equipment.

The Domestic Employee informed Reaction Officers that she heard an unusual noise from the upper level shortly before the fire broke out. The area was unoccupied at the time.

The upper level, which housed commercial catering equipment including stoves, ovens, fridges, chafing dishes, cutlery & crockery, was completely destroyed.

The Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services were in attendance & conducted firefighting & damping down operations. The scene was later declared safe.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
