Five suspects arrested in Umlazi, following a robbery at a jewellery store at a shopping mall in Umhlanga
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested five suspects aged between 20 and 44, in Umlazi, following a robbery at a jewellery store at a shopping mall in Umhlanga on Sunday, 12 April 2026. During the arrests, some of the items suspected to have been stolen during the robbery were recovered.
While processing the scene at the mall, police received crucial information that the suspects involved in the robbery were seeking a buyer for the stolen items in Umlazi. Police officers from the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, as well as the eThekwini District Task Team, swiftly acted on the intelligence and proceeded to Umlazi in search of the suspects.
Through coordinated effort, hard work, and perseverance, police arrested five (5) suspects in the early hours of Monday morning, 13 April 2026. During the operation, jewellery estimated to be valued at R3 million was recovered, as well as clothing, bank cards, and mobile routers.
The arrested suspects were charged with business robbery as well as attempted murder. They are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. Investigations are still ongoing.
