Copper thieves due in court

In the early hours of this morning, police officers from the Rapid Rail Police Task Team were busy conducting patrols at Bayview railway station. Whilst they were on patrols, they spotted two men cutting overhead copper cables.

The police officers approached the suspects who ran into the bushes. Police officers pursued the men and the suspects aged 25 and 45 were placed under arrest for tampering as well as damaging essential infrastructure.

A bolt cutter that was used for cutting the cables was also recovered by police. The estimated street value of the recovered cable is R16 320-00. The suspects are appearing before the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court today.
