Appreciation to all who contributed to wilderness rescue in the Western Cape during 2023

Wilderness Search And Rescue WSAR Western Cape wishes everyone a safe and prosperous new year, filled with many outdoor adventures.

This year has seen our teams respond to more incidents than ever before.

We want to thank all our team members, government agencies and partners for their incredible dedication to the outdoor community and the thousands of hours contributed to wilderness rescue in the Western Cape during 2023.

We’re especially thankful to everyone who so generously donated, ensuring that our rescuers had the vital equipment required to continue providing this critical lifesaving service to the communities of the Western Cape.

The images below were taken during the last rescue of the year.

On Sunday morning team members responded to Lion’s Head after a 29-year-old hiker from Lesotho reported that he was having trouble breathing.

He was flown from the popular trail in the Western Cape Department of Health & Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter and driven to hospital by ambulance.
