Housebreakers were still planning how to get rid of their stolen loot, when Port Shepstone police members pounced on them and recovered all the property that they have taken from the owners during recent housebreakings. On Tuesday, 23 September 2014 at 15:00, members were patrolling in the Izotsha area near Port Shepstone, when they noticed two suspicious males walking on the side of the road. The two suspects were carrying a big suitcase and a box. The members stopped and searched the contents of their bags. A plasma television set and a laptop were found in the suitcase and some clothing and jewellery in the box. The two suspects both in their twenties were questioned and they then willingly took the members to the house in Izotsha where they had broken into earlier the same day. The owner of the house who was at work and who was not yet aware of the break-in was contacted. He identified the stolen property and opened a house breaking and theft case. The two suspects will appear in Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court today, 25 September 2014.

In another incident on 23 September 2014 Port Shepstone and Port Shepstone K9 Unit members, proceeded to Shelley beach where they arrested an 18-year-old suspect for house breaking. The owner of a house in Mitchell drive Shelley beach reported that her house had been broken into. The suspect had forced open a door and gained entry. They stole a 9mm pistol with a box of 9mm rounds, a laptop, clothing, a safe key, a BMW motorcycle key, a video camera and some other items. The members surprised the suspect where he was sitting amongst his loot near a pump house in the Shelley beach area. All the stolen property was recovered.

The suspect will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 26 September 2014.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye, was delighted with the quick arrests and expressed her appreciation towards the members for the recovering the stolen property as well.
