Search and Rescue operation saves lives

Yesterday, 19 February 2019, Umhali K9 Search And Rescue together with Ipss medical rescue, responded to an accident scene where vehicle veered off the R102 Maidstone bridge to a 30m drop into a fast flowing river. Members utilized rope rescue systems to lower themselves and gain access to the entrapped patients in the vehicle. Two passengers managed to free themselves whilst rescuers extricated the driver. An 8-year-old boy was entrapped in the vehicle but members were able to free him. A fifth person, a pedestrian that was knocked down by the vehicle and dropped 30m onto the river bed, was also recued. All 5 patients were treated on scene and taken to Victoria hospital for further treatment.
