Operation Phakisa yields positive results in Northern Cape

A total of sixteen suspects have been arrested by the Northern Cape SAPS, during operation Phakisa held from 19 August 2019 to 24 August 2019 in the coastal areas of the Northern Cape.

Among those arrested were nine male suspects who were found poaching abalone in the kleinsee area, abalone weighing about 10kgs was also confiscated.

The operation also focused on illegal drug trafficking, undocumented persons, and second hand dealers were also visited, where over 500kg of copper that could not be accounted for was seized and an inquiry was opened.

During the operation about 10kgs of dagga was found abandoned and an inquiry was also opened.

This multidisciplinary operation included the Departments of Environmental Affairs, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, State Security Agency and Crime Intelligence and South African Revenue Service.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Koliswa Otola applauded all role players for the successful performance during the operation.
