New Tiger Wheel & Tyre Campaign Celebrates Tyres that are “Best in the Wet”

There’s a wonderfully descriptive Afrikaans expression, “Goedkoop is duurkoop”, meaning that cheap goods will cost you more in the long run. Nowhere is this truer than with tyres, cautions Tiger Wheel & Tyre. While a budget tyre might do a reasonable job under ordinary driving conditions, the retailer points out that wet weather conditions will quickly sort the good from the just okay.

So why spend a little more for premium tyres? In a word, safety. Big brands like Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook and Michelin – all of which are featured in the “Best in the Wet” campaign – collectively spend millions of dollars on research and development each year. Recent wet testing by the German magazine Auto Bild demonstrated this very convincingly. Using brand new Continental tyres, and braking from 80 km/h, the test driver was able to stop the car in 29.58 metres driving on premium tyres and 38.02 metres driving on budget tyres.*
