#Stayingininsurance… be the change!

Often times when we were in school, advancing through subjects, we had questions of the relevance of the content we studied in certain subjects to our future careers. This link is not always obvious.

In episode one, task one, sponsored by INSETA, the apprentices Amogelang Kgaladi (FNB Insure), JP Ellis (Constantia Insurance), Kanchaal Mahabeer (Power Brokers & Financial Services), Memory Zimba (Centriq), Nabeelah Maharaj (Santam), Sebastian Reddy (Old Mutual Insure), Siphamandla Dube (Hollard), Vicky Sebothoma (Aon Re Africa) and Yaseen Essop (RBS Insurance Brokers) have the opportunity to influence grade 11 learners at Westbury Secondary School in Johannesburg.

This year the apprentices imparted skills and knowledge to a selected group of teachers and students highlighting the importance of particular subjects to insurance and its various careers.

The subjects chosen were maths, business studies, geography and life orientation. The apprentices were tasked with studying the curriculum of the subject they were given, have a conversation with the grade 11 teacher about the subject and find a way to share with the grade 11 learners how this specific subject is relevant to the insurance industry. Bringing in the importance of Inseta was a critical element of the message they had to convey.

Did they win the learners over and cover the required mandate set out by Judge Nadia Starr (Chief Executive Officer at INSETA), guest Judges Adeline Singh (Skills Planning Manager & Head of Research at INSETA), Tumi Peele (Chief Operations Officer at INSETA) and Nox Dlamini (Managing Director at XonRisk and 2018 TIA Winner)?

We would like to thank INSETA for sponsoring the first episode of The Insurance Apprentice 2020.
