Attempted murder and hijacking suspect arrested

KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Detective team led by Captain Basil Buys, tracked down the suspects and eventually arrested one in Wolmaranstad, North West Province, on Wednesday, 04 March 2020.

The Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime, with the assistance of Wolmaranstad SAPS members and Potchefstroom Flying Squad, apprehended a 43-year-old man in connection with a case of attempted murder and hijacking. It is alleged that on Tuesday, 03 March 2020 at approximately 22:00, the suspect together with his accomplice boarded a Meter Taxi in Kimberley. In the process the duo held a 30-year- old Meter Taxi driver at a knife and gunpoint compelled him to drive in the direction of Boshof. In the event, they stabbed and shot the meter taxi- driver and dropped him off on the Boshof Road and sped-off with the meter taxi.

During the arrest of the suspect in Wolmaranstad, the team recovered the meter taxi.

Further investigation and search, a .22 Zip-gun, two knives. 15x 9mm ammunition and 6x .22 ammunition and 3x shotgun ammunition were found in possession of the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 06 March 2020, one the count of attempted murder and hijacking.
