Business robbers swiftly nabbed by police after robbery in Northdale

It is alleged on 21 June 2020 at 13:30, a group of armed men entered the business premises at on Failsworth Road in Northdale and robbed the security guard of his firearm.

They held the staff and the patrons at gunpoint demanding cash. They took an undisclosed amount of cash as well as eight cellphones of which some are from the patrons. The suspects fled the scene in their two getaway vehicles. Mountain Rise SAPS are investigating a case of business robbery.

A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted last night until this morning at Mountain Rise and Maqongqo areas in Table Mountain. The team was following up information about the suspects involved in a robbery committed on Failsworth Road in Northdale. A total of six suspects aged between 20 and 61 were swiftly placed under arrest at different areas. Two firearms which also include a shotgun that was robbed from a security guard was also found from the suspects.

A total of 14 rounds of ammunition was also seized from the suspects. Two vehicles suspected to be used as a getaway were also seized and impounded for further investigation. The suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other robbery cases reported in Mountain Rise and surrounding areas. They will appear before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
