Win or lose

“The experience of The Insurance Apprentice competition can be described in one word: breath-taking. From a personal viewpoint, the competition stretched me to become a better version of myself. The tasks provided real-time simulations of the challenges that the industry faces, hence deriving solutions to solve these. TIA serves as a competitive advantage for the industry. Unearthing sometimes hidden talent within the industry itself. It also bodes well for the leadership succession of the industry, and lastly, there are some truly workable ideas emerging from this competition which will only serve to improve our industry. I learned about the need to be flexible and amendable, through having to come out of one’s comfort zone. As much as it’s a competition, it’s also a once in a lifetime experience. If you enter, have fun, build relationships, and learn. The sky is the limit… this may be the one and only chance, continuously strive to challenge yourself,” said Amogelang Kgaladi, winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2020 and Head of Corporate Actuarial at FNB Short Term.

Aspiring insurance professionals… enter
JP Ellis, Senior Legal and Claims Manager at EthiQal Medical Risk Protection, a division of Constantia Insurance said, “I would encourage aspiring insurance professionals to enter this competition because there is nothing like it. The exposure is incredible. We had many opportunities to meet senior executives from a variety of different stakeholders in the insurance industry. We also had exposure to a variety of different areas of insurance and related work.”

“For those that are considering entering, win or lose, the experience is all worth it and meeting like-minded people will broaden your horizon in the industry. Enter this competition to experience a life-changing experience,” said Kanchaal Mahabeer, Key Individual at Power Brokers and Financial Services.

“It has the advantage of building your professional brand in the insurance industry you are unlikely to get anywhere else. It is an experience you will never regret,” said Memory Zimba, Actuarial Manager at Centriq.

“You learn something new every day, are placed out of your comfort zone and are forced to rise to the challenge. Allow yourself the opportunity to be part of a platform that showcases your talent,” said Nabeelah Maharaj, Team Manager: Commercial Processing Centre at Santam.

“I feel like I grew overnight. I am glad that I went through it all… I got the opportunity of a lifetime and I am forever grateful,” said Sebastian Andre Reddy, Regional Personal Lines Service Consultant at Old Mutual Insure.

“This platform has definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone, and it showed me that if you put your mind and energy into something believe you me, anything is possible. I am of the opinion that no textbook would ever teach you so much valuable information and also let you put it into practice all in one week! We work in such an amazing industry that’s filled with lots of opportunities and if you want to experience these opportunities and build your brand while doing it, then I urge you to enter,” said Siphamandla Dube, Broker Consultant – Corporate Division at Hollard Insure.

“There are many ways to be innovative and you need to put yourself out there and believe in the success of whatever you do. If you looking to develop yourself and grow as a person, then this competition is a definite must,” said Yaseen Essop, Insurance Broker at RBS Insurance Brokers.

“The Insurance Apprentice was an amazing experience and it is a brilliant competition. This is an opportunity of a lifetime where one gets to learn, network, build themselves and get great exposure for their career,” said Vicky Sebothoma, Broker Assistant at Aon Re Africa.

Application deadline extended
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the chaos and uncertainty it has caused, we have decided to extend the deadline for applications for the 2021 series to 11 December 2020 to accommodate those who cannot travel for elimination rounds and to adhere to the strict social distancing rules.

Filming will also be extended to mid-2021, but because of the rather uncertain times we are facing, there is no firm date yet. We will keep everyone in the loop as we go along…. But in the meantime… enter, enter, enter!

Once entries close
Once applications close (date to be confirmed), the top candidates will be identified. If you have been chosen to go through to the second round, you will be notified. For those candidates that make it through to the second round, elimination rounds, sponsored by Constantia Insurance, will take place in:

Durban;
Cape Town; and
Johannesburg.

After the elimination rounds, nine apprentices for series seven of The Insurance Apprentice will be revealed. Filming will take place mid 2021 (dates to be confirmed). The series will be aired via the news and The Insurance Apprentice websites, YouTube and Facebook pages.
