Business break-in suspect arrested in Verulam, KZN

A 22-year-old man was arrested shortly after breaking into a business on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD this morning (Sunday).

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the takeaway at approximately 02:29 after receiving reports of a break-in in progress. On arrival it was established that the front window was broken and the cash register was stolen. CCTV Footage was viewed and a description of the suspect was obtained.

Whilst on patrol a suspect matching the description was spotted in an alley between Wick and Groom Street. The suspect was apprehended and coins stolen from the cash register was found in his possession. An Okapi pocket knife was also recovered in his pocket. During questioning, he admitted to the break-in and led members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to the railway station where he dumped the cash register.

The suspect was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation. The Waterloo resident is believed to be linked to several business break-ins.
