Supa Quick extends its support of the Premier Interschools for the second time in a row

Tyre fitment centre group Supa Quick has confirmed it will resume its lead sponsorship of the Premier Interschools tournament, an annual 12-match series displaying the talents of the best rugby playing schools in South Africa.

Featuring the highest-profile and most traditional interschool rugby rivalries from South Africa’s top rugby schools in 12 matches, the tournament’s first game between Paarl Boys and Grey College will be played and broadcast live on SuperSport on 08 May 2021. Followed by Bishops vs Paul Roos on 15th of May. The full fixture can be accessed at: https://premierinterschools.co.za/.

“Sports development is a vital part of South Africa’s recovery journey following the devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Yolandi Grundeling, Supa Quick brand manager. “Resuming sporting activities safely is important to build up a stream of new athletic talent but let us not forget that exercise is one of the most essential aspects of maintaining mental health.”

“Organised sports also offer the additional social interaction that helps break the feeling of isolation that many people struggle with. These benefits combined are essential in building the optimism needed in our society, as we grapple with the pandemic and the related levels of covid 19 lockdowns.

According to a 2019 report by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa, 25% of South Africans play sport, with most people engaging outside formal sport structures. The biggest reason for becoming involved in sport was cited as “exposure to sport at school”, with 33% of respondents stating this.

Reasons for non-participation included “no interest” and “lack of facilities and opportunities”. The data revealed a great sporting divide in South Africa and the importance of providing inclusive access to sport for all, especially within the school system.

School rugby has served as one of the cornerstones of domestic rugby dating back more than a century, and true to its slogan “Honouring Heritage. Playing for the Future”, Premier Interschools seeks to uphold history, heritage and tradition.

The Premier Interschools stories are further captured in 12 magazine shows which preview all the games and provide historical overviews of these traditional schools and highlight other academic, cultural and sporting achievements.

“This is our second stint as the headline sponsor, having done so from 2019,” says Grundeling. “The tournament sponsorship is not only an important way to reach the motorists of the future, as well as to showcase some of the top sporting talent. It is a great vehicle for us to contribute to the community in a meaningful and sustainable way.”
