Funerex Africa – Guinness World Records Attempt for the longest parade of hearses

Funerex Africa – set to be the continent’s foremost trade expo for the funeral industry – will take place at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 16 and 17 March. The inaugural event will incorporate a trade expo and tailored motoring experience, as well as an attempt at a Guinness World Record.

Funerex Africa Event Director and FuneralCar CEO & Founder, Rachel Stead, says the event, which brings together members and suppliers of the funeral industry, has attracted onwards of 100 exhibitors and will provide a much-needed platform for funeral directors to network and find out about the latest industry trends and developments.

“Several workshops will take place over the course of the two days and participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and help find solutions to industry challenges. The event will also provide attendees with access to innovative industry solutions and supplies.”

A highlight at Funerex Africa will be OnTrack with FuneralCar, a tailored motoring experience incorporating high-speed driving experiences on the Grand Prix Track, off-road driving, skidpan and handling track experiences, convoy driving experience, a formation driving competition for funeral parlours, supercars and, of course, a look at the latest hearse designs.

Stead says one of the most exciting events planned for the expo is another attempt at the Guinness World Record for the largest parade of hearses. “This follows our attempt in 2019 when we narrowly missed getting an official record as a result of gaps in the convoy. With commitments made by funeral parlours around the country thus far, we are confident we will achieve the record this year. All we have to do is slow down and stick closer together.”

Funerex Africa attendees can look forward to two jam-packed days of activities and fun, followed by sundowners and a Boma Braai on Wednesday evening and a cocktail party on Thursday evening. Food and refreshments will be on sale throughout both days.

Notably, an online buyer’s portal will be introduced on the Funerex Africa website from 16 March 2022, which will enable funeral parlours to purchase goods online as well from the wide range of suppliers represented at the event. This online shop will remain open after the event as a value add to both exhibitors and funeral parlours.

Funerex Africa is an associate member of FIAT IFTA, the World Organisation of Funeral Operatives. The event is endorsed by the National Funeral Directors Association of Southern Africa and is aligned with their vision of the creation of an event that embraces all associations of funeral directors in Southern Africa and in other markets on the continent and uplifts the industry, encouraging more suppliers to use the platform to market their products  and services to the industry.

Please note that the event is not open to the general public. Visitor access will be limited to Funeral Professionals and suppliers exhibiting at the event.
