Alleged Hijacker Nabbed in Manor

Yesterday evening, at around 10pm, Mi7 National Group’s Control Room Operators received information from various community groups initially reporting an attempted hijacking in the Manor area.

According to the information, a woman driving a silver VW Polo was approached by a man who allegedly pointed a firearm at her in attempts to steal the vehicle. The woman is said to have sped off, and entered a nearby fuel station where she called for help.

Mi7 Strategic Threat Response Unit members nearby were immediately dispatched to assist. They met with the woman, who provided a description of the alleged hijacker as well as the vehicle he fled in – a Renault Clio. Mi7 teams strategically swept through the Manor area in search of the suspect’s vehicle, and eventually, Manor Neighbourhood Watch members spotted it – initially abandoned.

While inspecting the outside of the vehicle, Mi7 teams were approached by a man purporting to be the owner. When questioned, the man denied any involvement in the crime and having a firearm, and even gave Mi7 teams permission to search the vehicle.

Mi7 teams, however, found the magazine of a firearm concealed in the vehicle. The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation upon their arrival.

We extend our appreciation to the vigilant members of the Manor Neighbourhood Watch who spotted the vehicle.
