Car sale scam artist arrested after crash of vehicle in attempted hijacking

On Friday afternoon Emer-G-Med Paramedics responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Umgeni and Goble Roads in the Stamford Hill area.

On arrival on scene a white SUV was found to have crashed into the traffic light.

A female passenger was found on the side of the roadway with moderate injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the couple had travelled from Johannesburg to Durban to purchase a motor vehicle.

They met the the prospective seller at the nearby licensing department where a deposit was exchanged. They then were proceeding to the Chatsworth area to collect the vehicle.

Whilst travelling the suspect posing as a salesman produced a weapon and attempted to hijack the couple of their SUV.

The female allegedly jumped from the vehicle in a bid to seek safety whilst her husband and the suspect engaged in a tussel before the vehicle crashed.

The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly.
