Visuals from the water rescue from a vehicle swept into a river near Durban
A man and his female passenger were washed downstream into a raging river earlier today
Durban’s Metro Police Search and Rescue arrived on the scene together with Durban SAPS Search and Rescue. Additional resources from EThekwini Fire, EMRS, Netcare 911 NSRI water rescue expert Paul Bevis and his team, IPSS Ballito, Metro Police disaster management, Marshall Security community support and START Rescue were on the scene
A quick assessment of safety protocols was discussed and the rescue operation was underway
Working as a team the rescuers launched a floating device downstream towards the stranded vehicle
The “crock” as it’s known was tethered to a control team further upstream and they worked in tandem with a manual human rope pulley to pull the passengers towards safety.
Approximately four hours later and in the dark the driver was brought to safety
