Crime Awareness campaign to help vulnerable community members in Summerstrand.

Humewood police station held a crime awareness walk with the residents of the Cheshire Home in Summerstrand. The residents at the home are physically challenged and wheelchair bound. They do have freedom of movement and often take walks to the beach or to the shopping centre in the area. Many times they are alone. During the walk to the beach the members interacted with them and explained to them the dangers when they are out in the street.

They were encouraged not to carry large amount of cash with them and also to leave valuable items at home. While at the beach front, they were treated with ice cream from a group of workers from SARS. This trip to the beach was welcomed by them as they do not often get a such a privilege. SAPS Humewood members thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with these special people and handed out Easter eggs after their walk. Caring for people who are less fortunate than many of us, is a blessing and encourages us to do more. The smiles on the faces of these people was a worthwhile reward for our members.
