Rais M’Bohli Named Best Goalkeeper of Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019

CAIRO, Egypt, 23 July 2019 –Rais M’Bolhi of Algeria has been named ‘Best Goalkeeper’ of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019. M’Bolhi took the award, which is sponsored by Continental, ahead of fellow nominees Amigo Gomis (Senegal), Sylvain Gbohouo (Cote D’Ivoire) and Mohamed El Shenawy (Egypt).

The Algerian goalkeeper champion, M’Bolhi, also plays for the Congolese football club Tout Puissant Mazembe and has been selected to win this award for his exceptional performance during the tournament that helped the Algerian Football team win the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019.

The award was presented to the Rais M’Bolhi by Philipp von Hirschheydt, Head of Passenger and Light Truck replacement tyres in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, who said: “M’Bolhi has enjoyed a fantastic tournament, and is a deserving recipient of the inaugural Continental ‘Best Goalkeeper Award. Continental’s involvement with the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019, and sponsorship of this very special award demonstrate our commitment to football in Africa, and our ambition to engage even more closely with consumers on this great continent.”

The eventual winner and initial shortlist were chosen by the Technical Study Group (TSG) of tournament organisers, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF). The ‘Best Goalkeeper Award’, sponsored by Continental, was announced after the final between Senegal and Algeria, which took place in Cairo on Friday, 19th July, with Rais M’Bolhi receiving a USD10 000 prize.

Continental’s exclusive sponsorship of the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ performance index of the tournament is linked to the international tyre manufacturer’s official sponsorship of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019. As the team’s last line of defence, the keeper’s role in safeguarding the goalmouth reflects Continental’s own safety values, with the manufacturer having pioneered road safety for more than 140 years. Safety is also reflected in Continental’s Vision Zero initiative to make roads safer in the future, with zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero crashes.

Continental’s sponsorship of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 is part of a five-year agreement between Continental and the Confédération Africaine de Football. This extensive rights package also includes the next two editions of the tournament for 2021 and 2023 that will be held in Cameroon and Ivory Coast respectively.
