FNB celebrates BOKKE win!

The Springboks took ultimate glory today by winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup and bringing the trophy home. Rallying behind the Springboks, fans supported the team throughout the tournament by sending in their #WordsofGreatness which inspired the Boks to bring the trophy home.

Being titled Rugby World Cup champions after 12 years is incredible. “Congratulations BOKKE! Thank you for making South Africa #Proud as we continue to ‘Back’ you,” says FNB CEO, Jacques Celliers.

FNB’s affinity to the Springboks was a natural extension to the concept of ‘grassroots to greatness’, with the bank enabling Rugby from a developmental school level and Varsity Cup perspective. We are proud to have supported and been part of the Springbok Journey. “Our sponsorship with the Springboks symbolises the bank’s commitment to nation-building.  Sport is a priority for the bank and has the power to unite a nation. It is through sponsorship properties like these that the bank has demonstrated its commitment to the development of grassroots talent in the various communities that we operate in,” says Faye Mfikwe, FNB Chief Marketing Officer.

She adds, “The Springboks have not only inspired South Africans but have also helped young hopefuls believe in their dreams and aspirations of one day representing our beautiful country. Congratulations once again to the Springboks, you are a true inspiration to all of us.”

South African fans played an immense role in helping the Springboks win. The #WordsofGreatness campaign truly reflected heart-warming messages from fans to the Boks.  The campaign captured the hearts and minds of South African fans and received the attention of the team with Captain, Siya Kolisi saying that the team was ‘grateful for the support they had received in Japan, and from back home.’

Thank you to all South Africans for sending in your #WordsofGreatness. “Without your unwavering support and powerful words of encouragement, our team would not have been able to bring the trophy home. You have helped in building one nation and helped our team bring home gold,” concludes Mfikwe.
