SAGMJ Accident Group Policy Renewal – Optional Dread Disease Cover

If your SAGMJ membership fee has not been paid you are no longer covered under our exclusive accident policy. If you need to verify if you have paid, or need a copy of your membership invoice you can email sagmj@iafrica.com.

The SAGMJ provides an excellent Accident Group Policy to Fellow, Full, Affiliate and Associate members (probationary members are excluded until they upgrade their membership status). A member recently claimed and received extensive medical refunds and a loss of income payment demonstrating once again how important insurance coverage is in the high-risk environment within which we do our work.

This comprehensive group scheme, underwritten by Santam, builds on the solid foundation of the previous group scheme but adds many substantial benefits for Members. One such benefit is the inclusion of racetrack coverage (time trials and racetrack activities that are not racing events).

Accident insurance on an individual basis would normally cost thousands of Rands per year, depending on the age of the insured. All relevant of the Guild are covered under the group scheme for a fee (paid in full by the Guild). Additionally, members up to the age of 80 are now also covered, whereas the previous scheme only allowed insurance up to age 75.

The Guild is proud of this new policy, which is still administered by Inscon Hawkins & Associates Insurance Brokers (the Guild’s brokers since 13 March 2011).

ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL COVER:

Members under 60 who wish to expand their insurance to include Dread Disease cover (this does not include cover for COVID-19) can purchase this for an additional R 210 for the balance of the insurance year that expires March 2021. You need to inform Michelle York (sagmj@iafrica.com) no later than 28 April 2020. The Guild will issue an invoice which must be paid before the cover is in effect. Members can only request the additional coverage when the policy is renewed and cannot join after this renewal is completed.

This cover is not automatically renewed annually and any member wanting the additional cover must communicate this to the Guild office.

A brief summary of the general Accident Group Policy follows, but it is your responsibility to read the comprehensive attached policy document that highlights many benefits and details that cannot be summarised on a page. Please note Probationary Members do not have insurance cover until they become Affiliate or Full Members. Fellows also enjoy these benefits whether they are retired or not.
