Murdered Businessman Found Wrapped In a Blanket in Fairbreeze, KZN
Ashver Sukwa, a 35-year-old businessman was murdered while his 67-year-old father was stabbed and locked in a cold room during a home invasion at their Saibs Place in Fairbreeze, Tongaat home this morning (Saturday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center received a call from a man at approximately 04:45 stating that while walking past the residence he noticed the back door and gate to the house opened. He also noticed blood on the floor. The Operations Center also received calls from employees who arrived at worked and noticed the house ransacked after they looked through a window.
Reaction Officers from Tongaat and Ballito were dispatched to the property and on arrival called out at the back door. A man from inside the home responded and Reaction Officers entered. An elderly victim was found in the kitchen. His clothing was covered in blood. He had been stabbed at least four times.
He informed Officers that he and his son operated a fruit and vegetable distribution business from the property. This morning he opened up for one of his employees who was expected to transport a load of bananas to the market. His employee, a South African national with three other men held him up and forced him into the warehouse. They repeatedly stabbed and assaulted him before locking him in a cold room in the warehouse. After some time the victim managed to free himself and make his way back into the home. The suspects had already fled.
He informed Reaction Officers that his son was also in the residence however he could not be located. He assumed that his son had gone in search of the suspects as he noticed his firearm was missing from the safe.
Officers penetrated the house and found blood on one of the beds. The 35-year-old was found on the floor wrapped in a bedsheet and blanket that was soaked with blood. Reaction Officers unwrapped him so Paramedics could work on saving his life, however, it discovered that he was stabbed at least 35 times and was declared deceased a short while later.
The motive for the murders is believed to be robbery. The entire home was ransacked and two safes were found opened. A firearm is suspected to be stolen. The elderly victim has been transported to hospital for medical attention. Blood was also discovered on a wooden pallet inside the cold room and on the door.
Police are on scene and investigating further.
