Three teenagers arrested twice within hours for two separate incidents of business burglary

Three (3) teenagers aged between 16 & 18 were arrested twice within hours for two separate incidents of business burglary.

Last night (Sunday) at approximately 21:27, Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a tip off that three males were in the process of smashing a large window with bricks at Mall Cafe on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN and attempting to gain force entry.

Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival, discovered a large glass shattered. Officers received a description of the three males responsible who fled prior to the arrival of First Responders.

Reaction Offices set out in search of the burglars and apprehended them fleeing on Thompson Lane in the Verulam CBD – KZN less than a kilometre from the scene. They were released by Police due to the lack of evidence linking them to the incident. RUSA Members documented their information including their residential addresses prior to releasing them.

The suspects thereafter proceeded to Everest Heights in Verulam – KZN where they broke into a General Dealer and stole cigarettes, cash & groceries.

This morning (Monday), the RUSA Operations Center received a call for assistance from the owner of the store. Reaction Officers proceeded to the premises and viewed CCTV footage of the incident. Officers realised that it was the same teenagers who were apprehended last night for attempting to break into the fast food outlet.

RUSA Officers along with members from Dev Security & the Verulam SAPS proceeded to an address on Himalaya Drive in Everest Heights – KZN provided by one of the suspects where goods stolen from the General Dealer were recovered.

Law Enforcement Officers were informed that the three teenagers had just left the property and were proceeding to the Verulam CBD. An extensive search was conducted which resulted in their arrests. Two of the suspects are confirmed to be brothers.

The trio were placed under arrest and detained.
